To support our domestic and international projects, tax and non-tax deductible donations can be made through: Mail: MSC Mission Office, PO Box 177, Kensington NSW 1465 Australia | Email: [email protected] Online/Paypal: www.mscmission.org.au | Telephone: (02) 9697-0983 Life-Death-Life At this time two things come to mind for our consideration. At this time of Easter we look at the life of Jesus Christ as Life-Death-Life. The whole life of Jesus, and especially his ministry, his death and resurrection are one event, which we celebrate in the Easter Triduum as one event. He lived and ministered to a particular people, in a time and place, in a particular culture with its language, customs and beliefs. His death begins at the last supper and journeys to the cross, including bitter disappointment that his message was not heard. In his resurrection to new life, he recognises his followers, gives life, strength and courage sending them on mission. Read more in our newsletter online... Applications Clean water is a gift of the creator and the right of all people everywhere and in every time. People continue to have polluted water bringing sickness; they continue to walk long distances to carry water home; schools, hospitals and homes continue to struggle to have adequate water; gardens and farms lack water to survive. We have succeeded to help some people. Democratic Republic of the Congo “Because of the breakdown of the former water system it is necessary to install a filtration system from the rainwater tank to get clean water; a reverse osmosis water filtration system to purify the water from the underground water cisterns.” Cameroon The MSC Lada College will “drill a bore, purchase an electric pump, build a water tower” to serve the college and the surrounding population of 15,000, who are mostly farmers and live in poor conditions. They apply also for “the building of a cistern to collect the rainwater”. Senegal and Bukina Faso The beneficiaries of water projects are typically rural, living from agriculture and livestock. The rainfall is plentiful in wet season and sparse in the dry season so the needs are for storage tanks, wells and distribution, to prevent water- borne disease and ease the burden on women. Marshall Islands 3 outer-island sub-parishes needed water catchments: Tinak Arno, 2 water tanks with 1000 gallons capacity each; Woja Ailinglaplap, 1 water tank with 1600 gallon capacity; and Namdrik Atoll, 1 water tank with 1600 gallon capacity. With the help and assistance from MSC Mission Office Australia, the priests and parishioners in these sub-parishes can now access reliable supply of clean water for their basic daily needs. Papua New Guinea At Vuvu, Rabaul, Sr Geraldine Alemule FMI “Haus Sekan” (meaning a place to shake hands, to make or bring peace) is a Centre catering for many community activities, serving women, youth, and parish groups. The Sisters or others conduct retreats, short courses, training and meetings. Installed were 2 x 9000 and 1 x 2000 litres tanks with base materials, gutters all round the house, poly pipes and labour. “We have had good rains to fill the tanks and now have clean water and good pressure in the house. The water tanks also save us from seeking water in the nearby villages during dry season.” Read more about our projects in our newsletter online... NEWS Mission Office Relocation In late 2019 we were offered a new site for our Office in the Chevalier Resources Centre in what was known as the “Blue Room”. This is a beautiful big room, with large windows and a great outlook. An offer too good to refuse! After appropriate discussions and hours of work, we moved our entire operation. In the Monastery we had workspace, files, books and more, spread in five different rooms, on three levels. We now have everything in the one space, plenty of room for all the staff to work, for meetings and with room to spare. It is a great space to work, giving new life to our work, and I love it!! Fr Michael Lau - New Director of Papua New Guinea Mission Office We are happy to welcome Fr Michael Lau msc as the new Mission Office Director for Papua New Guinea taking over from Fr Fabian Manukialona msc. Projects officer Sean Donovan travelled to Port Moresby to assist with training and setting up Michael with our systems and processes. The 2-mile community were also graced with a visit by Cardinal John Ribat msc. Sean’s follow up trip is postponed for the moment. Acquittals JOIN US ON OUR DAILY WEBCAST AT “MISSION ALIVE!” HERE
