catholicweekly.com.au 10 NEWS 24, May, 2020 ADVERTORIAL Online courses for upskilling THE UNIVERSITY of Notre Dame Australia is drawing on its fields of expertise and offer- ing a wide selection of online courses to assist Australians to develop new skills and retrain in priority areas such as Ed- ucation and Healthcare for a post-pandemic society. In this era of rapid change, education is more important than ever. The Higher Ed- ucation Relief Package an- nounced by Education Minis- ter Dan Tehan on 12 April was introduced to support workers who have been displaced as a result of COVID-19 and are looking to take their career in a new direction, upskill and retrain through remote learn- ing. Notre Dame University has enhanced its online learning platform to continue to pro- vide its personalised approach and high academic stand- ards for students throughout and beyond the pandemic. In line with the aims of the gov- ernment Relief Package, the University is also tapping into its strong industry ties and expanding online offerings in areas of critical need in Aus- tralia, including healthcare, nursing, teaching and science. Recently Notre Dame launched hugely successful online courses to support the upskilling and retraining of healthcare professionals. As a result of the overwhelming re- sponse, further sessions were scheduled. The demand high- lighted how Notre Dame’s ex- pertise in the fields of health- care and teaching can help meet community needs. Our other online courses also align with our commitment to ed- ucating the future workforce in priority areas of study and continuing to deliver academ- ic excellence. Available online courses include: Graduate Certificate in Mental Health Nursing & Allied Health, Graduate Cer- tificate in Nursing, Gradu- ate Certificate in Education (Leadership and Manage- Notre Dame University launches online courses to help Australians upskill post COVID-19 ment), Graduate Certificate in Education (Special Needs), Graduate Certificate in Catho- lic Thought, Graduate Certif- icate in Religious Education NSW, Graduate Certificate in Education (Curriculum), Graduate Certificate in Math- ematics and Graduate Certifi- cate in Learning and Teaching for Higher Education. There are also online cours- es on offer from the School of Business, the School of Law, and the School of Philosophy and Theology. All courses are presented by experts in their respective fields, offering new students the opportunity to learn from some of the fore- most academics in Australia. Study in these areas can also be extended further to achieve Graduate Diplomas and Mas- ter qualifications. In the coming weeks, No- tre Dame plans to introduce a further 12 Undergradu- ate Certificate programs to its suite of online programs (adding to the list above). The University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Profes- sor Margot Kearns said the six-month courses were a per- fect opportunity for students to experience University-level studies in one of more fields of interest. “The Undergraduate Cer- tificate offers an opportunity to acquire new skills and, for some students, could add to their existing qualifications,” Professor Kearns said. “Stu- dents will learn how to re- search and analyse critical issues, and will develop skills in presenting information and arguments.” COVID-19 has impacted just about every part of our society, with scientists racing to develop a vaccine, health- care workers putting in long hours and parents having to learn how to home school their children. However, with crisis comes opportunity, and undertaking further study is an excellent way of improving your career prospects and up- skilling in areas that will help meet the skill demands for the emerging post-pandemic economy.
